A full rooftop system is not the starting point for every home or every budget. A carefully chosen smaller installation gives more households a way to take part. Its value comes from fitting your space and the way you use electricity.
Use some of your own energy.
Electricity you generate and use at home can reduce what you need to buy from the grid during daylight hours.
Make a manageable start.
A compact kit can be an option where a larger project is not practical. The full cost, including any mounting and electrical work, still needs to make sense.
Get to know your energy.
Seeing how generation changes through the day helps you understand what solar can do for your home and whether a future upgrade is worthwhile.
THE RIGHT SETTING MATTERS
Start with the space, then the system.
A sunny patch is a good beginning. We also look at how the panels will be supported, how the system connects and when you can use the electricity. Our introductory UKSOL Duo offer is specifically for suitable ground locations, not balconies or roofs.
Daylight and shade
Orientation, nearby trees and buildings, and the changing seasons all affect output. A sheltered corner that is heavily shaded may offer very little benefit.
Mounting and surroundings
The support, wind exposure and cable route need to suit the location. Our ground kit needs a suitable garden or patio location, including any required permissions.
Your household routine
Small systems are most useful when generation overlaps with electricity use. Think daytime background demand, with the grid supplying the rest.
OUR RECOMMENDATION

We strongly recommend having your system assessed and fitted by an MCS certified solar installation company using qualified electricians. For us, safe installation starts with looking at the whole setting.
Our experience installing solar and battery systems shapes that view. The panels are only one part of the job. The mounting, existing electrics, equipment compatibility and commissioning deserve the same care on a small installation as on a larger one.

Self installation depends on the kit, site and electrical connection meeting the applicable requirements. We recommend professional assessment and fitting. Our introductory UKSOL Duo packages are £1,659 using a suitable existing outdoor socket, or £1,759 including a new outdoor socket with an actual cable route of up to 2 metres from a suitable existing ring or radial socket circuit. Both include the kit, ground frames, ballast, compatibility testing, commissioning and handover. The fitted offer is for the first five suitable West Lothian homes, with 0% VAT where the full residential installation qualifies. Extra work is quoted separately. We confirm the applicable certification and paperwork before connection.

A small system can help you decide whether more solar or a larger home battery is right for you. There is no need to decide that on day one.
Adding a battery is a separate design decision. A standard microinverter will not necessarily connect to one, and “battery ready” means compatibility with a specified system, not every battery. We assess the inverter, battery size, charging power and connection requirements before recommending an upgrade.
